Corte dei Venti: The Winery that Found the Key to Its Extraordinary Wine in the Presence of the Wind

Today, I want to tell you about a well-known winery - Corte dei Venti - in Pian Cornello in Siena, Tuscany, Italy. This area allows the company to benefit from the specific climatic conditions of the territory in which it is located. The constant convergence of winds that prevents fog formation can favor vine cultivation and producing quality grapes.

Hilly terrains with steep slopes can offer several advantages for vine cultivation. They can promote soil drainage, preventing water stagnation around the plant roots and contributing to good ventilation. Steeper slopes can also facilitate natural irrigation of the vineyards, allowing water to flow and reach the plant roots.

The presence of ferruginous-calcareous clays in the soil can positively affect vine cultivation. Clay retains water and nutrients, providing a water reserve for the plants during drought. Additionally, it allows better root penetration and adequate air circulation.

Corte dei Venti winery emphasizes controlled temperature and humidity, fundamental elements for wine fermentation and aging. The division into two distinct areas, one for vinification and the other for aging, is standard in quality cellars. The vinification area, equipped with steel tanks, is usually dedicated to the fermentation and initial processing of the grapes. Steel tanks offer a hygienic and easy-to-clean environment, allowing precise temperature control during fermentation. The aging area, on the other hand, is intended for wine aging. Using oak barrels and 25 hl wooden casks can give the wine a specific aroma, flavor, and structural characteristics. During the aging period, the wine can benefit from interaction with the wood, which can contribute notes of vanilla, spices, and increased complexity.

The Brunello di Montalcino D.O.C.G. produced by "Corte dei Venti" is a high-quality wine characterized by remarkable taste intensity. The combination of fullness and roundness on the palate, supported by freshness and structure, suggests a balanced and complex wine. Grape variety: Sangiovese Grosso. Color: ruby red with garnet reflections. The aging of Brunello di Montalcino for 36 months in Slavonian oak barrels of 20/25 hl contributes to its development and distinctive character. Wood can bring notes of vanilla, chocolate, spices, and toasty nuances to the wine, enriching its aromatic profile and contributing to its complexity. Slovenian oak barrels are considered high quality for wine aging and can provide a distinctive touch to Brunello di Montalcino. Furthermore, bottle aging for at least 8 months after the period in oak barrels allows the wine to mature further and develop its personality. During this time, the wine can integrate its components, create more complex aromas, and refine its structure. The production process of Corte dei Venti's Brunello di Montalcino reflects a commitment to quality and excellence. This wine is appreciated for its taste intensity, freshness, structure, and aromatic complexity that develops through good aging in both oak barrels and bottles.

The new generation - The company is managed by Clara Monaci and her daughter Silvana, who bring freshness and innovation to Corte dei Venti.
